DCS SYSTEMS:

Differences between DCS and PLC/SCADA systems

 

  • Common datebase: PLC programming and  Scada  helps to programme and administer  through using one system.

 

  • Available system: Basic blocks used in PLC ve Scada and firm methodology are brought by DCS producer. This also includes many properties such as  equipment control blocks,faceplates,alarm systems and user authority.

    Redundancy ve Fail-Safe: DCS systems provide immediate solutions for redundancy and fail-safe systems.

 

  • Sensor/Equipment Communications:By means of smart bus applications,Sensors and equipments can be remote controlled. (for example;Profibus PA, Profibus DP, HART, FieldBus)

 

  • Ex-Proof: As  DCS systems are widely used Ex-Proof environment,DCS manufacturers  provide entrance and exist cards and communication systems compatible with this environment/system(buna ?)
  • Easy Expansion: Thanks to Server-Client SCADA architecture ,Usage areas can be easily  expanded

Easy Programming:Through  programming diagram softwares such as CFC and SFC ,available  automation blocks as to technological functions  can be  programmed easily and fast

 

High level plant control  rather than machine check:

  • Due to the properties mentioned above DCS systems seem to be designed not for machine checks but for whole plant controls.Although analog controls are mainly used,digital controls are implemented up to certain levels of detail
  • Even though some DCS systems that run at a speed up to 100 ms use analog systems as a target process ,Some that have less cyclic process speed can be used also  in Discrete automation systems
